How to Create NFC / RFID Wallet Passes

Great news: Litecard fully supports the RFID and NFC Pass system for Apple and Google Wallets, meaning you can now easily and securely use your Litecard without fumbling for a physical card or even opening an app.

What is NFC Pass?
NFC stands for Near Field Communication. It’s a simple, wireless technology that lets two devices talk to each other when they are very close, usually just a few centimetres apart.

An NFC Pass is like taking a physical card (like your Litecard membership card, a ticket, or a loyalty card) and turning it into a secure, digital version stored on your phone (like in a digital wallet app).

  • Simply put: It’s a quick, tap-and-go way to share information or complete a task.

Why Use NFC Passes?
The main reason for using an NFC Pass is speed and convenience. In today’s fast-paced world, you want things to be as quick as possible.

  • No fumbling: You don’t have to search your bag or wallet for a physical card. Your Litecard is ready on your phone.
  • Faster Service: Tapping your phone is much quicker than swiping a card or manually entering information.
  • More Secure: Your phone adds an extra layer of protection, often requiring your face, fingerprint, or a simple passcode to approve the use of the Pass.
  • Convenience: Your phone is almost always with you, so you can never forget your Litecard at home.
  • Security: NFC Passes use high-tech security features. The actual Litecard details are kept private and secure on your device.
  • Quick Updates: If Litecard needs to update your membership or access rights, the digital Pass on your phone can be updated instantly, without having to issue a new physical card.
  • Clutter-Free: Say goodbye to a thick wallet full of cards; keep everything digital on your phone.

NFC Pass Use Cases

LocationHow it Works with NFC Pass
At a retail StoreInstead of scanning a barcode or handing over your physical loyalty card, you simply hold your phone near the Litecard reader at checkout to instantly apply discounts or earn points.
Gaining AccessIf your Litecard is used for entry (like a gym or office door), just a quick tap of your phone against the reader gets you in without needing a badge.
Event Check-inTapping your phone at a registration desk instantly verifies your membership or ticket, making long lines move much faster.

How to make an NFC pass?

Creating an NFC Pass involves securely connecting your Litecard system with the digital wallet providers (such as Google Wallet and Apple Wallet). This process ensures that your users’ Litecard membership can be safely digitised and used via Near Field Communication (NFC) on their smartphones. Crucial Setup Steps and Information to Collect

Before starting the technical integration, you must have the following unique identifiers and keys for each respective platform. These details are vital for authenticating your system and ensuring secure communication.

PlatformRequired InformationPurpose
Google WalletGoogle Collector IDThis ID is used to link your service to Google Wallet. It authorises your system to create, manage, and push Litecard Passes to a user’s Google Wallet.
Apple WalletApple Public KeyThis cryptographic key is part of the process for signing and securing the digital Pass (PKPass file). It ensures that the Pass is genuinely issued by your service before it is added to a user’s Apple Wallet.

Obtain Necessary Credentials: the Google Collector ID and Apple Public Key as detailed above. This involves registering as a developer with Google and Apple and setting up your Pass service.

Our team will be happy to help you find your Google Collector ID and Apple Public Key. But here are the steps to obtain the Google Collector ID as your information:
