Klaviyo Integration Guide

1. Overview

Litecard connects Klaviyo and Shopify with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. Brands can use customer data and events in Klaviyo to create personalised mobile wallet passes, then distribute those passes through email, SMS, WhatsApp, website forms and Shopify customer journeys.

Customers can save a loyalty card, membership card, voucher, offer or order-tracking pass without downloading a separate brand app. Once saved, the pass can remain available on the customer’s phone, update when information changes and deliver relevant wallet notifications.

How the integration works

  • A customer enters a Klaviyo flow or submits a Klaviyo form.
  • Klaviyo sends the required customer data to Litecard through a webhook.
  • Litecard creates a personalised Apple Wallet and Google Wallet pass.
  • Litecard writes the customer’s wallet links and pass status back to their Klaviyo profile.
  • Klaviyo delivers the pass through email, SMS, WhatsApp or another configured channel.
  • The customer can present the pass online or in-store, including at Shopify POS.

Figure 2. A typical Klaviyo flow creates a pass, waits for the wallet properties and then sends the customer message.

2. What you can build

Litecard supports multiple mobile wallet experiences within the same customer ecosystem. A brand may use one long-term loyalty pass alongside short-term vouchers, campaign passes or order updates.

Digital loyalty and membership cards

Create a branded Apple Wallet or Google Wallet card containing a customer’s membership information. Fields can be mapped to Klaviyo profile properties or connected loyalty data.

  • Membership number or customer ID
  • Loyalty tier
  • Points balance
  • Available rewards
  • Reward expiry dates
  • Current offers
  • Barcode or QR code for in-store identification

Figure 3. Tiered wallet pass designs can change as a customer progresses through a loyalty program.

Figure 4. Manage multiple loyalty tiers within the Litecard pass template.

Offers and vouchers

Create personalised wallet offers that customers can redeem online or at the point of sale. Each offer can contain a unique barcode, QR code or promotional code linked to the customer.

  • Welcome offers
  • Birthday rewards
  • Member-only promotions
  • Referral rewards
  • Product vouchers
  • Limited-time campaigns
  • In-store coupons

Order tracking

Create order-tracking passes that customers save to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet from a Klaviyo transactional message. The pass can update as the order moves through fulfilment.

  • Order confirmed
  • Preparing order
  • Dispatched
  • Ready for collection
  • Out for delivery
  • Delivered

Figure 5. Example order information presented through Apple Wallet and Google Wallet.

Wallet notifications

Litecard can send event-based or location-based wallet notifications. These complement Klaviyo email and SMS and can link customers back to a product page, account, store locator or campaign landing page.

  • New reward available
  • Points balance updated
  • Loyalty tier changed
  • Offer approaching expiry
  • Order status changed
  • Customer near a store
  • New member benefit available

3. Configure your Litecard pass

Begin by creating or selecting the pass template that Klaviyo will use. The template controls the pass design, data fields, barcode, back-of-pass content, notifications and optional tier logic.

Create the pass template

  • Sign in to the Litecard dashboard.
  • Open Pass Templates.
  • Select Create Pass Template.
  • Choose the appropriate pass type.
  • Add the brand design, pass fields and barcode or QR code.
  • Save and preview the Apple Wallet and Google Wallet versions.

Figure 8. Create a new pass template in Litecard.

Figure 9. Configure the pass fields and preview the wallet card.

Figure 10. Add or edit pass fields, links and supporting content.

Configure tiered designs

For tiered loyalty programs, create a default design and additional designs for each tier. Litecard can update the visual treatment and displayed benefits when a customer’s tier changes.

Best practice  Use a stable customer identifier as the primary pass reference. Avoid relying on an email address or mobile number where a dedicated membership or customer ID is available.

4. Configure Klaviyo custom properties

Litecard writes wallet information back to the customer’s Klaviyo profile. Create the required custom properties once on a test profile before building the production flow.

Klaviyo propertyPurpose
apple_linkThe customer’s personalised Apple Wallet download link
google_linkThe customer’s personalised Google Wallet download link
qrCodeA unique QR code image for customers viewing an email on desktop
litecardIDThe customer’s Litecard identifier, used for universal wallet links and grouping
DOWNLOAD_ACTIVEIndicates whether the customer has downloaded the pass

Use a text placeholder such as Y when initially creating the properties. A numeric placeholder may prevent Klaviyo from showing the expected “is set” condition in a flow.

Figure 11. Example custom properties stored against a Klaviyo profile.

Why DOWNLOAD_ACTIVE matters  Use this property to hide future wallet acquisition prompts or exclude customers who have already downloaded their pass.

5. Add Litecard to a Klaviyo flow

Before editing a live flow  Clone the existing Klaviyo flow first. Build and test the Litecard version separately before moving it into production.

Recommended flow structure

  • Trigger: customer enters a segment, submits a form or completes a relevant event
  • Webhook: create the Litecard pass
  • Conditional split: check whether the wallet properties are populated
  • Yes path: send the email, SMS or WhatsApp message
  • No path: wait two minutes, then check again

Figure 12. Recommended flow sequence with a webhook, conditional split and message.

Step 1: enable the Litecard integration

  • Open the relevant pass template in Litecard.
  • Select Integrate with Other Systems.
  • Choose Inbound Listener.
  • Enable the integration.
  • Copy the endpoint URL, webhook secret and JSON payload displayed in Litecard.

Figure 13. Open the integration controls from the pass template list.

Figure 14. Select the integration option for the required pass template.

Figure 15. Enable the integration and copy the required connection details.

Step 2: add the Klaviyo webhook

  • Open the cloned Klaviyo flow.
  • Add a Webhook action after the trigger.
  • Paste the Litecard endpoint URL into the destination field.
  • Add the API header using x-api-key and the webhook secret copied from Litecard.
  • Paste the JSON payload supplied by Litecard.
  • Remove dollar symbols where Litecard specifically instructs you to do so.
  • Save the webhook configuration.

Figure 16. Configure the webhook action inside Klaviyo.

Figure 17. Example Klaviyo webhook request configuration.

When the webhook runs, Litecard creates the pass, links it to the customer, generates the wallet links and writes the relevant properties back to Klaviyo.

Step 3: add a conditional split

Do not send the wallet message immediately after the webhook. Litecard needs a short period to create the pass and return the customer properties.

  • Add a conditional split after the webhook.
  • Check whether apple_link is set.
  • Check whether google_link is set.
  • Check whether qrCode is set.
  • Join the conditions using AND logic.
  • Send the customer message on the Yes path.
  • On the No path, add a two-minute delay and check again.

Figure 18. Add an initial conditional split after the webhook.

Figure 19. Use the populated wallet links and QR code in the Klaviyo message.

Production safeguard  Consider adding a maximum retry or internal alert path so customers do not remain in the flow indefinitely if pass creation fails.

6. Add wallet passes to email, SMS and WhatsApp

Klaviyo email

Add three components to the wallet section of the email: an official Add to Apple Wallet button, an official Add to Google Wallet button and a desktop QR code.

ElementDynamic value
Apple Wallet button{{ person.apple_link }}
Google Wallet button{{ person.google_link }}
Desktop QR code image{{ person.qrCode }}

Figure 20. Add the official wallet buttons and a dynamic QR code to the email.

Display logic  Where practical, show Apple Wallet to Apple users, Google Wallet to Android users and the QR code to desktop users. Hide the wallet acquisition block after DOWNLOAD_ACTIVE confirms the pass is installed.

Reusable Klaviyo content

Save the wallet section as a Klaviyo Universal Content block. This makes it easier to maintain consistent artwork, links and conditional logic across multiple campaigns and flows.

  • Welcome emails
  • Loyalty enrolment emails
  • Birthday campaigns
  • Reward notifications
  • Promotional emails
  • Order confirmations
  • Shipping updates
  • Membership renewal messages

SMS and WhatsApp

Litecard can provide a device-aware link using the customer’s litecardID. When opened, Litecard detects the device and presents the appropriate Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass.

Universal link format #

https://demo.litecard.io/welcome/?id={{ person.litecardID }}&autoDownload=true

Use your approved Litecard production domain rather than the demo domain before launch. Klaviyo’s link shortener may be used where required.

Example message: “Your digital membership card is ready. Add it to your mobile wallet here: [personalised Litecard link]”

7. Create passes for existing customers

Existing Klaviyo customers can receive wallet passes through a bulk migration or an automated API process. The preferred approach depends on database size, update frequency and loyalty-data complexity.

Bulk migration process

  • Export the required customer data from Klaviyo.
  • Complete the Litecard bulk import template.
  • Upload the customer file to Litecard.
  • Generate the wallet passes.
  • Export the wallet properties from Litecard.
  • Import the new wallet properties into Klaviyo.

The returned fields normally include apple_link, google_link, qrCode, litecardID and DOWNLOAD_ACTIVE where required.

Large customer databases  For imports above 10,000 records, contact Litecard before proceeding. This reduces the risk of Klaviyo rate limits and allows the migration to be scheduled appropriately.

Take particular care where tiers, points or rewards may change during the export and re-import period. For large or frequently changing datasets, an automated integration is usually more suitable.

8. Use Klaviyo forms and popups

Litecard can be connected to Klaviyo website forms and popups so a customer can receive a wallet pass after submitting their details.

Applicable use cases / opportunities for brands:

  • Welcome vouchers
  • Coupons
  • Competitions
  • Product sampling
  • Lead generation
  • Event registration
  • In-store acquisition

Example flow:

  • The customer submits the Klaviyo form.
  • Klaviyo triggers the Litecard webhook.
  • Litecard creates the pass.
  • The page or follow-up message displays Apple Wallet and Google Wallet options.
  • The customer saves the offer to their wallet.
  • Litecard can later deliver expiry reminders or updated content.

This approach is usually best for offers and campaign passes. Membership cards may require additional identity verification or membership data before a pass is issued.

9. Scan wallet passes with Shopify POS

Businesses using Shopify POS can install Litecard from the Shopify App Store and add Litecard tiles to the POS interface.

Shopify App Store: apps.shopify.com/litecard-pos

  • Scan a customer’s Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass with the device camera
  • Identify the Shopify customer
  • View membership information
  • Validate a voucher or offer
  • Check the customer into a store or location
  • Use NFC where supported

Figure 23. Example in-store identification and Litecard management experience.

10. Other POS platforms

Litecard can also work with other point-of-sale systems. The simplest approach is to encode an existing customer or transaction identifier into the pass barcode or QR code.

  • POS customer ID
  • Loyalty membership number
  • Customer account number
  • Unique promotional code
  • Email address or mobile number where no stable ID is available

A unique, non-changing customer ID is the preferred option. When the pass is scanned, the POS searches for the corresponding customer or transaction record.

11. Testing and launch checklist

Complete the following checks before moving the flow into production.

  • Use a cloned test flow rather than editing the live flow directly.
  • Create test profiles for both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet devices.
  • Confirm all Klaviyo custom properties are created as text properties.
  • Verify the webhook endpoint, x-api-key header and JSON payload.
  • Confirm the conditional split uses AND logic.
  • Test the two-minute retry path.
  • Confirm Apple Wallet and Google Wallet buttons open the correct customer pass.
  • Scan the desktop QR code from a phone.
  • Test SMS and WhatsApp links using the production Litecard domain.
  • Confirm DOWNLOAD_ACTIVE updates correctly after installation.
  • Test barcode or QR-code scanning at Shopify POS.
  • Check pass updates, expiry dates and notifications.
  • Confirm customer consent, privacy and campaign rules are satisfied.
  • Monitor the first production sends and webhook failures.
